Just a tidbit of a thought today, but still, a thought worth taking a look at. I was in conversation with my lady friend this morning when the thought arrived. It came in riding one of those tangents that is a surest sign of true intimacy between two human beings. We were discussing the things that stand between us, the things that limit the depth of our relationship, the things you simply must accept about them no matter how uncomfortable you might find them to be because they are part of your friends' deepest definition of self, the things you must respect to respect their internal fidelity of self that allows them to be a friend in the first place.
Anyhow, the thought goes like this: the only time a human being can actually be free of the burden of gender is while they are making love to another human being of opposite gender. Not simply sex for the sake of sex, the sensation of the mating, but making love head to head, heart to heart. Only then, when she has taken him hilt deep in her belly and his breath is her breath, when they are motionless savoring the poignant delight of their auras of persona merged to balance without the effort of projecting that aura beyond the boundaries of the flesh, only then can a human being know an existence free from the burden of gender.
Just a tidbit of a thought, expressed so many times in so many different ways it's all but trite, but still a deep thought touching so many facets of the human condition that is so very, very defined by the thousand and one ways people arrange their lives and loves trying to achieve those moments of tranquility that make the effort of genuine love worthwhile in the first place.
I can think of a few other times where we can be free of the "burden of gender": when we play music together, or work side by side, or are involved in some other demanding creative activity...
ReplyDeletePerhaps for some, if the passion of the endeaver at hand is greater than the instincts of the flesh... good point.
